Kitchen Garden: Beginners Guide For Growing Your Own Veggies

You get tremendous happiness when you grow your own vegetables and cook them in your kitchen. There are many good vegetables which can be grown easily. Now let’s go into detail about growing a few easy vegetables suitable for beginners in gardening.
Some of the vegetables grown easily are
Tomatoes:
• They are an easy plant to be grown by a beginner;
• They can be grown by saplings from a nursery or a supermarket;
• You can grow your own seedling from the seeds of tomatoes which we use in a kitchen;
• First, prepare a bed of peat moss and sow the seeds. Within a week you could see new sprouting from the seedbeds;
• Once they reach 2- 3 inches you can transplant them either directly into the garden or to the big pots;
• Once they are established in their new sites, you can use sticks or tomato rods for guiding them to grow;
• Nitrogen-rich fertilizers are necessary till they produce flower;
• Once they start flowering you can use phosphorus and potassium-rich fertilizer for effective fruiting.
Green Chilies, peppers, and jalapenos:
• These are easy plants to start with;
• They may take about 2 months to flower;
• But you could get more peppers in one plant;
• Unlike tomatoes, most of them are resistant to diseases and fungus attacks.
Cucumbers:
• A great plant to be grown in your kitchen garden;
• It is a climber;
• You can make arrangements for support of cucumber plants with a stick or make them climb near a wall of the garden. You can even make them grow flat.
Herbs:
• Herbs like coriander, mint, rosemary, oreganos, basils, parsley are rather easy to grow;
• You can use your own seeds available in the kitchen or get saplings from the nursery;
• They are best for any beginners as they grow well.
Onions, Carrot, beetroot, and radish:
• They are underground vegetables that can be grown easily;
• For Onion, you can use seeds or bulbs;
• For Carrots and radish get seeds and sow them in raised beds in your garden;
• Radish is the fastest-growing tuber and you can harvest within two months;
• Carrot and beetroot take a longer time of about three months to harvest.
Maintenance of Kitchen Garden:
• Plants grow well in nutrient soil and bright sunlight;
• Always plant the vegetables in areas where you can get bright sunlight;
• Water regularly once in three days. In summers you have to water daily;
• Fertilizing is a very important thing for good yield. Fertilize with good fertilizer; rich in nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium;
• For Organic Gardening, use Compost tea once in 15 days and spray a pesticide like a neem oil with kelp extract every 10 days to get rid of bugs and fungal diseases.
